Last week in Congress, I voted for H.R. 702 to lift America's decades old ban on crude oil exports. The U.S. is now one of the leading producers of oil in the world and our energy policy must be updated to reflect this new reality. H.R. 702 will unleash the full potential of the American energy revolution by bringing down domestic gas prices, help create a climate for hundreds of thousands of new jobs, and generate an estimated $1.4 billion in profits to the federal government over the next ten years. Repealing this antiquated ban will also allow the U.S. to help our allies, particularly in Eastern Europe, by weakening OPEC and Russia’s energy monopoly. And, thanks to President Obama’s disastrous Iran agreement, Iran is able to more freely export its oil resources than our own country. The American economy needs to be unshackled in order to compete on this newly competitive economic front. More information: http://www.wsj.com/articles/house-votes-to-lift-oil-export-ban-1444411778

As Co-Chair of the Space Power Caucus, I was honored to host Secretary of the Air Force Deborah Lee James. The Secretary gave a briefing to our gathering on Air Force Space Programs. The Space Power Caucus exists to educate members and staff on the importance of space to our national security. Much has changed in recent years in space, and there is a lot to learn! This year’s defense bill, which the Senate overwhelmingly passed yesterday, contains space-related provisions that show Congress believes in the importance of space, and recognizes that it will be an essential part of fighting and winning the wars of the future. Maintaining American supremacy in space is not optional; it is essential to American safety and security.
