Colorado Springs, Colo (KRDO) - Congressman Doug Lamborn announced Saturday that fifty students from Colorado's Fifth Congressional District would receive his nomination for entry into one of the four service academies; the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, U.S. Naval Academy, U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, and the U.S. Air Force Academy.

This year's fifty nominees were selected based on meeting or exceeding Congressman Lamborn's selection process to enter the esteemed military academies.

“We have some of the finest young men and women here today,” Lamborn told KRDO before the ceremony. “They're hard working, they’re smart, they show leadership, they’re involved with different ways of helping other people," Lamborn says, "and they have a desire to serve our country.”

The process to get here was not easy. They had to go through a rigorous interview and application process all virtually because of COVID-19.

However, these students who dream of being part of our military say all the hard work they've done over the years was worth it.
