Washington, May 11 -

Chris Chocola, President of The Club for Growth, the nation's leading free-market advocacy organization, announced that Representative Lamborn has earned the annual Defender of Economic Freedom award for 2008. The award honors members of Congress who have a strong voting record on economic growth issues.

"With his score of 100 percent, Representative Lamborn is a champion of the pro-growth agenda. As 1 of 13 congressional members to earn a perfect score, Representative Lamborn demonstrates a strong commitment to economic freedom and free-market principles.

"The Club for Growth scorecard allows the general public to see how their representatives and senators are voting. In these crucial times, as the country faces a number of threats from big-government forces, Representative Lamborn has taken a stand in defense of American taxpayers. We hope that in each year to come, support for common sense, economic principles will continue to grow, allowing more members to earn this award and more Americans to benefit." – Chris Chocola, Club for Growth president

"It is an honor to be recognized for my efforts to promote freedom and economic liberty. I am committed to protecting the taxpayers of this country from reckless deficit spending that will eventually lead to higher interest rates, higher taxes, and other future economic maladies." – Congressman Doug Lamborn (CO-05)

The award is based on certain votes that the Club for Growth tracks on its scorecard. The study included a comprehensive examination of each lawmaker’s record on pro-growth policies and computed an Economic Growth Score on a scale of 0 to 100. A score of 100 indicates the highest support for pro-growth policies. Those lawmakers scoring 90 or higher receive the Defender of Economic Freedom award.
