Co-Chairs of the GOP Israel Caucus Praise Guatemalan Embassy Move

June 4, 2018

Washington, D.C. - Co-Chairs of the GOP Israel Caucus Congressman Doug Lamborn (CO-050 and Congressman Lee Zeldin (NY-01) praised the embassy move by Guatemala of their embassy to Jerusalem.

Congressman Lamborn: "I want to thank President Morales for supporting our mutual ally Israel — Guatemala's May 16 embassy move demonstrates a fact that Americans know to be true — Jerusalem is the eternal capital of the state of Israel and all embassies should be located there. The fact that the Arab League severed ties with Guatemala over this recognition of reality is very disappointing. We in America support this move and are pleased other nations around the world like Paraguay and Hungary are also taking steps to support Israel."

Congressman Zeldin: "Our friend and ally Guatemala has shown great fortitude in its decision to move its embassy to Israel's capital city of Jerusalem. Guatemala once again has proven to be a key partner on this issue and others, including efforts to combat terrorism and drug trafficking. The Arab League's actions are an assault on Guatemala's sovereign right to decide the location of its embassy and recognize the rightful capital of Israel."
