Congress Passes Pelosi Payoff

Press Release

Washington, D.C.—Today, the U.S. House of Representatives passed a massive nearly $2 trillion spending bill. This legislation represents the most partisan attempt at COVID relief to date. Democrats have seized on this opportunity to cram it full of items almost entirely unrelated to the COVID-19 pandemic. The bill included $350 billion for Democrat-run state bailouts, with $50 billion for Governor Andrew Cuomo and New York state alone. $50 million is set aside for anti-life nonprofits like Planned Parenthood. In fact, only 9% percent of this so-called “covid” bill is even dedicated to public health spending.

Congressman Lamborn issued the following statement in opposition to the bill:

"Despite Democrats' efforts to the contrary, today’s spending bill should never be classified as coronavirus relief. In fact, less than 9% of the nearly two trillion-dollar package is actually spent on public health. The more aptly named “Pelosi Payoff” provides $350 billion to bailout poorly run blue states, gives money to abortion providers such as Planned Parenthood without providing Hyde protections, and provides $86 billion in union pension bailouts. The unemployment insurance through August actually pays many people more to stay at home than they would make working. Even more egregiously, only 5% of the funding for schools would be used in fiscal year 2021."

"The underlying economy is strong. Operation Warp Speed is conquering the virus. I am deeply concerned that the needless and excessive spending prevalent in Washington will lead to high inflation rates. This progressive wish list also saddles American taxpayers with tremendously more debt for future generations. This bill should never become law."
