Washington D.C. -Today, the House of Representatives approved a resolution to appoint conferees and move to form a conference committee with the Senate on the National Defense Authorization Act of Fiscal Year 2020. Congressman Lamborn, Ranking Member of the Readiness Subcommittee and one of the Republicans chosen to represent the House of Representatives on the Conference Committee, issued the following statement in response to the passage of the resolution:
"It is a great honor and a tremendous responsibility to be named a conferee to the NDAA conference. I look forward to serving in this capacity once again. The defense authorization bill is one of the few bipartisan pieces of legislation Congress passes every year. Along with my Republican colleagues, I will work to curb the leftwing excesses included in the highly partisan bill which passed the House in July. I am confident we will be able to craft a much more bipartisan and stronger bill for the president to sign which does less to implement Democratic domestic policies and political goals and more to increase our military's resiliency and lethality. As we work through negotiations, I will continue to be a strong advocate for the defense issues that make a significant impact to our district. Policies such as defense space, missile defense, nuclear modernization, increased readiness, supporting the defense industrial base, and ensuring that our military families have the resources, benefits, and programs they need to thrive will take priority."
Congressman Kevin McCarthy, Republican Leader of the U.S. House of Representatives, issued the following statement applauding Congressman Lamborn's leadership and insight regarding this year's FY20 NDAA Conference:
"As the Ranking Member of the Readiness Subcommittee and a senior Member of HASC, Doug understands the importance of rebuilding our military readiness and modernizing our forces. He has fought hard to reverse the readiness crisis and ensure that our military is properly prepared to defend against future threats. We need someone who will look beyond present challenges and champion strengthening our national defense not just for this generation but for the next. I am very confident that Doug will deliver on that score."
In addition, Congressman Mac Thornberry, Ranking Member on the House Armed Services Committee, issued the following statement highlighting Congressman Lamborn's contributions as a past conferee:
"I am pleased to welcome CongressmanLamborn back as a conferee to the defense bill Conference Committee. I look forward to working with him to produce a bipartisan bill both the House and Senate can support. As Ranking Member of the Readiness Subcommittee, and a leader on matters like missile defense and national security space reform, I can rely on Doug to help ensure our troops have the resources they need to accomplish their mission. Colorado Springs will play a vital role in our national strategy designed to deter our adversaries, so I am happy to have his input throughout the deliberations."
