Congressman Lamborn Defends 2nd Amendment
Washington, D.C. – Today the United States House of Representatives voted on two pieces of legislation that would restrict American’s constitutional Second Amendment Rights. The first piece, H.R. 8 would require additional background checks for selling or transferring firearms. The bill criminalizes many activities that are common practice among law abiding gun owners, while failing to prevent guns from getting into the hands of criminals. The second piece of legislation, H.R. 1446, would arbitrarily delay background checks that will infringe upon millions of Americans’ Second Amendment right to defend themselves and their families. Specifically, the bill extends the three business day waiting period up to 20 business days.
Congressman Lamborn issued the following statement:
“As a Member of Congress, I took an oath to support and defend the Constitution. The Second Amendment right to bear arms is a fundamental principle in America and it should not be open to infringement. Today’s legislation would add burdens to lawful gun owners and is the first step to a national gun registry. I strongly opposed both pieces of legislation. If Democrats were serious about stopping gun violence they would go after the criminals, not the responsible, safe, and legal gun owners.”
