Congressman Lamborn Named Conferee for National Defense Authorization Act
Washington, D.C. – The United States House of Representatives approved a resolution to form a conference committee and appoint conferees with the Senate on the National Defense Authorization Act of Fiscal Year 2021. Congressman Lamborn, Ranking Member of the Readiness Subcommittee, was chosen as one of the Republicans to represent the House of Representatives as a core conferee.
Congressman Lamborn issued the following statement:
“It is my honor to be named a core conferee to the Conference Committee for the Fiscal Year 2021 National Defense Authorization Act. This position comes with tremendous responsibility and enables my fellow conferees and I to shape the final conference report into a piece of legislation focused on our national security. I am confident that we can remove partisan or extraneous leftwing provisions and restore this bill to the bipartisan legislation which unanimously passed the House Armed Services Committee. The final conference report must strengthen our military and increase our readiness to face the growing threats from our adversaries. I will continue to be a strong advocate for the defense issues that make a significant impact to Colorado’s Fifth Congressional District. I will fight to ensure policies such as national security space, missile defense, a pay raise for the troops, increased investment in directed energy, enhanced defense cooperation with Israel, and PFAS remediation are priorities in the final legislation, while pushing back against new federal land restrictions imposed on Colorado.”
Congressman Kevin McCarthy, Republican Leader of the U.S. House of Representatives, issued the following statement applauding Congressman Lamborn's leadership and insight regarding this year's FY21 NDAA Conference:
“As ranking member for the Readiness Subcommittee, Doug oversees the single largest account on the military’s budget. This is a weighty responsibility, but Doug understands the stakes and has shown a keen eye for detail across its wide-ranging portfolio. Moreover, Doug is a proven leader working for first class benefits for our men and women in uniform and their families. As Congress grapples with the crucial priorities of our military, I can confidently say that Doug will help ensure the final bill meets the highest possible standards.”
In addition, Congressman Mac Thornberry, Ranking Member on the House Armed Services Committee, issued the following statement highlighting Congressman Lamborn's contributions:
“I am grateful that Congressman Lamborn will once again serve as a conferee for the NDAA. His work on the Readiness Subcommittee and as a leader on matters like missile defense and national security space is vital. With Doug serving as a conferee, I am confident that we can produce a bipartisan bill that both Chambers can support. Doug is a Member who fights for Colorado Springs and his work is invaluable to this Conference Committee.”
