Congressman Lamborn Opposes Radical Gun-Control Legislation

Washington, D.C.- This afternoon, House Democrats brought to the floor the Senate Gun Control Act. This legislation undermines Americans' fundamental Constitutional rights, including the right to bear arms and the right to due process. Additionally, this bill criminalizes routine firearm transactions, treats 18 to 20 year-olds as second-class citizens, and uses taxpayer money to pressure states into implementing Constitutionally dubious "crisis intervention court programs."

Congressman Lamborn issues the following statement after voting NO on this unconstitutional, gun-grabbing legislation:

"While I wholeheartedly support the effort to improve access to mental health care and securing our schools, I will never support legislation that discards law-abiding Americans' right to self-defense and due process guaranteed under the Constitution. Rather, we should incentivize states to harden schools to protect our children and improve mental health programs. I believe that the right to bear arms is one of our nation's most fundamental and vital protections. I will always stand against any legislation that restricts an individual's God-given right to own and carry a firearm."

The Senate Gun Control Act:

-Restricts the constitutionally protected rights of younger Americans
-Eviscerates firearm owners' due process rights by implementing "red flag" laws
-Fails to address the current mental health crisis or reduce crime
-Creates unnecessary, ineffective and arbitrary waiting periods for certain law-abiding adults who are not prohibited from purchasing firearms
