Congressman Lamborn Urges Colorado Senators to Reject Governor Sebelius' Nomination

June 8, 2009

Washington, Apr 27 -

Congressman Doug Lamborn (CO-05) is urging Colorado Senators Mark Udall (D) and Michael Bennet (D) to reject President Obama’s nominee for Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services. The Senate is expected to vote on Governor Kathleen Sebelius’ nomination tomorrow, April 28.

"The majority of Americans and Coloradans reject the radical, pro-abortion agenda Sebelius promotes. As a close collaborator with the abortion industry, she is out of step with mainstream America. I would like Colorado’s senators to be true ‘Western Independents’ and vote against the Sebelius nomination, instead of simply toeing the party line on abortion." -- Congressman Doug Lamborn (CO-05)

Below are some of the reasons why Lamborn is urging the Senate to reject Governor Sebelius’ nomination.

  • During her time in public office, Governor Sebelius has demonstrated her adherence to the abortion agenda by accepting financial donations from extremist abortion providers and groups. For example, in a 2002 fundraising letter, George Tiller claims to have given more than $200,000 to ProKanDo, a political action committee that worked heavily to elect Governor Sebelius.
  • There are concerns surrounding meeting her personal tax liability and her openness about the amount of campaign contributions she received from George Tiller.
  • Further, she has hosted a Governor’s Mansion party for and accepted more than $35,000 in donations from the infamous late-term abortionist George Tiller, including $23,000 between 2000 and 2002 that she initially failed to disclose in her responses to the Senate Finance Committee.
  • In addition, Planned Parenthood, the largest abortion provider in the United States who has reported taking the lives of over 300,000 unborn children in 2008, has repeatedly endorsed Gov. Sebelius and conducted fundraisers on her behalf.
