Congressman Lamborn Urges New Administration to Support Southern Colorado Veterans Cemetery

April 1, 2009

Washington

Congressman Doug Lamborn (CO-05) met yesterday with Secretary of Veterans Affairs Eric Shinseki to seek his support for a new VA cemetery in Southern Colorado. Below is his statement to Secretary Shinseki.

"Many veterans live in Southern Colorado -- more than 100,000 in my congressional district alone. The Fort Logan cemetery in Denver is difficult to get to in the winter, or if you are an elderly widow. Also, that cemetery is slated to reach capacity in 8 to 12 years. If we can get a new VA cemetery in Southern Colorado, it will help the many widows and veterans in that part of the state, and extend the life of the Fort Logan cemetery." – Congressman Doug Lamborn (CO-05)

Lamborn noted the proposal had the support of the entire Colorado Congressional delegation last session, as well as the support of the previous administration.

Secretary Shinseki is visiting members of Congress this week to promote the Administration’s budget priorities.
