Congressman Lamborn's Statement H.J. Res. 46

Washington, DC – Congressman Doug Lamborn (CO-05) issued the following statement regarding H.J. Res. 46:

"President Trump is well within his constitutional right to declare a national emergency at the southern border. Past presidents have declared national emergencies totaling over 60 times with 32 active right now. The crisis at our border requires executive action. Time and time again, the facts show what's really going on there – human trafficking, drug trading, and many other dangerous crimes threatening our way of life. Border Patrol Agents have said they need reinforcement to combat these issues. Whether it be through technology, strengthened portions of the wall, or manpower, they need resources to keep our country safe. That's why President Trump sent American troops to the southern border. Each of the past five Administrations acted similarly. Because the profile of illegal immigrants has fundamentally changed recently from individual adults to families and unaccompanied alien children, it has disproportionately burdened Customs and Border Patrol and our federal government resources. President Trump's response to this crisis is appropriate."
