Washington, D.C. — Congressman Doug Lamborn released the following statement after Justice Department Inspector General Michael Horowitz released his report today, on the origins of the FBI investigation into President Trump's 2016 election campaign:
"Inspector General Michael Horowitz's report confirms that Republican warnings about abuses of the FISA court process were justified. The findings of the report indicate that the investigations into President Trump's election campaign were prompted by Obama administration officials, who were unjustified in their actions and misusing their power. The report confirms that the Justice Department found "serious performance failures" in the FBI's handling of the Russia probe and, "at least seventeen significant errors or omissions" occurred as James Comey's FBI abused its power to spy on the Trump campaign. In their desire to surveil Trump campaign associates, FBI officials misled the FISA court, omitted critical exculpatory facts from their filings, and ignored information nullifying the reliability of their principal source. For the last four years, the American people have witnessed that the Washington D.C. establishment are willing to break any rule, ignore any precedent, and twist any fact to attack President Trump."
