Congressman Lamborn's Statement on Pastor Andrew Brunson
Washington, D.C. - Today, a Turkish court ruled that American pastor Andrew Brunson will be released from prison. He was imprisoned for approximately two years on charges of terrorism, which were false and unfounded accusations. Congressman Doug Lamborn (CO-05) released the following statement after the announcement:
"For years, Turkish authorities wrongfully detained Pastor Andrew Brunson. The Turkish government slandered the good name of this law-abiding American citizen, accusing him of terrorism with zero evidence to back up their claim. As time went on, it became clear that Turkey's behavior was an attack on Pastor Brunson for his active Christian faith. This blatant denial of religious freedom and human rights was an affront to this innocent man and highly inappropriate behavior by a U.S. ally. I've been praying for Pastor Brunson and his family. I'm thankful they will be reunited after years apart. I want to thank my colleagues in Congress for lobbying for Pastor Brunson's release and the Trump Administration for making this a priority. Let's continue praying for the Brunson family as they recover from this painful ordeal."
