Congressman Lamborn's Statement Regarding The Fiscally Irresponsible Budget Deal
Congressman Lamborn issued the following statement regarding the fiscally irresponsible budget caps deal:
“I am disappointed that Democrats in Congress were unwilling to accept the modest proposals from the White House, which would have helped rein in out of control government spending. The President’s original budget request was fiscally responsible and would have cut unnecessary waste.
Virtually everyone knows that America is on a perilous fiscal path. The national debt is at an astounding $22 trillion and growing every second. Major mandatory programs are at the edge of insolvency, and discretionary spending has more than doubled over the last generation. But instead of working across the aisle and prioritizing a fiscally responsible budget, Democrats continue to play partisan politics at the expense of taxpayers.
The budget deficit and debt that the federal government is running are unsustainable and will put our future prosperity at significant risk. Congress must rein in our of control government spending and prioritize critical government functions like providing for our national defense. I cannot support a bill that is so fiscally irresponsible.”
Recently, Congressman Doug Lamborn, a member of the Republican Study Committee Budget and Spending Task Force, signed a letter, suggesting requirements for any agreement to raise the discretionary spending caps. You can view the letter here.
