Don't Put This Off: Skin Health Should be a Daily Priority

January 10, 2022

Colorado Springs, CO- After a recent routine check-up at the dermatologist, it was recommended to Congressman Doug Lamborn that he have a biopsy done of a suspicious sunspot. It was determined to be melanoma, which was then removed completely by a team of highly skilled doctors without incident.
Congressman Lamborn has recovered from the procedure entirely and encourages everyone to make time in their schedule for a routine skin cancer screening.

"I am grateful to my team of doctors, and their staff, for their professionalism and the excellent care I received during this process," said Congressman Doug Lamborn. "Unfortunately, the mountain landscape that we all know and love in Colorado, with its high altitude and plentiful sunshine, accelerates the rate at which damage is caused by the sun. A skin check by a dermatologist often only takes a few minutes, but it is a critical part of identifying skin cancer early. I encourage all of my constituents, young and old, to wear sunscreen and make sure they get checked regularly by a qualified physician."

"As there are more skin cancers than all other cancers combined, it is important to seek medical attention if you notice any new or changing spots on your body," said Dr. Reagan B. Anderson with the Colorado Dermatology Institute. "A few minutes each month looking at your own skin as well as at an annual check-up could be lifesaving."
