Helping the Families of Fallen Veterans

This week, Congressman Doug Lamborn has introduced H.R 5416, a bill designed to correct an oversight with veteran burial allowances. Under existing law, the family of a veteran in the CHOICE program who dies in a non-VA hospital receives a $300 burial allowance.  However, the family of a veteran who dies in a VA hospital or a non-VA hospital under VA contract, receives a $747 burial allowance.

"This is a discrepancy that absolutely needs to be fixed. A veteran's family should not be punished because the veteran was exercising their right to utilize the CHOICE program. I anticipate that this bill will be supported by my colleagues on the Veterans Affairs Committee and I am optimistic that it will be supported by the full Congress and signed into law by the President."
