October 20, 2020

Washington, D.C. – Today, Representatives Lamborn (CO-05), Horn (OK-05), Babin (TX-36), Crow (CO-06), Waltz (FL-06), and Crist (FL-13) announced the creation of the House Space Force Caucus. The co-chairs of the caucus also invited their House colleagues to join and support the sixth branch of the U.S. military. The Caucus will serve as an organization dedicated to educating Members and their staff about the U.S. Space Force as well as advocating on the Hill on behalf of our nation's youngest military Service.

"I am very happy to announce the creation of the bipartisan House Space Force Caucus," said Representative Lamborn. "I have the great honor of representing Colorado Springs: the home of Space Command in the state with the largest concentration of Space Force personnel in the nation. This caucus will serve as the chief advocate for our nation's exciting new Service, and work closely with the Department of the Air Force and the Space Force to provide opportunities for Members and their staff to learn about the vital role the U.S. Space Force plays in maintaining American space power."

"As a member of the House Armed Services Committee, and vice chair of the Strategic Forces Subcommittee, I am proud to serve as co-chair of the new bipartisan Space Force Caucus," said Representative Horn. "Space security is national security – it plays a critical role in every aspect of defending our nation. Maintaining superiority in space is essential to protecting our national security and US interests around the world. I look forward to working with the Air Force and Space Force leadership and my co-chairs to advocate for the importance of space priorities and the needs of our Space Force professionals. It is imperative we maintain strong presence in the space domain."

"Ensuring American leadership in space continues to be one of my highest priorities in Congress," said Representative Babin. "Critical to that is the recognition of space as a vital warfighting domain. With the establishment of the House Space Force Caucus, we are committing to championing the development of our nation's newest military service branch. I am honored to serve as a co-chair of this important caucus and look forward to dedicating the requisite congressional attention to the high ground of space."

Representative Crow said, "As a member of the House Armed Services Committee, I often discuss the changing nature of the threats to our national security and the paramount role that space will play in defending U.S. interests. As co-chair of the newly-formed Space Force Caucus, I look forward to working closely with senior leaders of the Space Force and Air Force to ensure Congress continues to advance space priorities in our national security policies and provide for the needs of our Space Force professionals. With the Space Force at the lead, we will ensure continued U.S. space dominance in the decades to come."

"Space affects so much of our everyday life, from our internet, to our banking, GPS and our military," said Representative Waltz. "The U.S. Space Force is a much-needed branch of our military, tasked with defending our country's assets in space – and it's crucial that as members of Congress, we continue supporting the advancement of this military branch for our security both today and in the future."

"As our nation once again sets its sights on the Moon and beyond, we will also rely on our Space Force to protect free access to space, maintain our satellite infrastructure, and keep American families safe," said Representative Crist. "As with all things space, Florida in particular will play a critical role as America stands up Space Force and bolsters our national defense. I'm proud to join my colleagues in establishing the bipartisan Space Force Caucus and look forward to working with them to educate Members and the public on the importance of our newest military branch."

In response to the announcement, Secretary Barrett said: "America's way of life relies on space. Inauguration of the House Space Force Caucus highlights the fundamental role of space to national security. As we continue building an agile, innovative, and bold U.S. Space Force, we look forward to collaborating with Caucus members to advance distinctive deterrence and defense capabilities in the space domain."
