Lamborn Responds to New BLM Rules on Colorado's Western Slope

November 17, 2016
Press Release

Congressman Lamborn released the following statement in response to the Department of Interior's decision to revoke oil and gas leases in Colorado's White River National Forest:

"For 16 years, the BLM has inhibited and encumbered 25 oil and gas leases on Colorado's Western Slope. Each of these leases represents the hope and dream of an entrepreneur, efficient and low-cost energy used by Colorado citizens, and jobs that impact our local economies. Even as he departs, President Obama and his team are frantically working to erode what little faith is left in the federal government and its commitment to honor valid property rights. This decision isn't just about a handful of leases in western Colorado; instead, it undermines the confidence and regulatory certainty necessary for the entire federal onshore oil and natural gas system.

In January, I look forward to working with my colleagues on the House Natural Resources Committee and the new Administration to streamline the federal permitting process, reduce onerous regulations, and harness the vast energy resources of our great nation."
