Lamborn Statement on the FY 2010 Budget

April 6, 2009

Washington

Today Democrats in the House of Representatives passed House Concurrent Resolution 85, a bill that sets spending levels for appropriations bills which come later this year. The bill is more commonly called the Obama Administration’s Budget for FY 2010.

Lamborn voted against this bill and instead supported alternative legislation, Ryan, Paul (R-WI) Substitute Amendment, and Jordan (R-OH)/Price (R-GA)/Pence (R-IN) Substitute Amendment, both Republican alternative budgets.

"The Democrats’ budget is a blueprint for creeping socialism. Under the Obama budget, in five years our national debt will double, and in ten years it will triple. It’s generational theft. This massive tidal wave of spending debases our currency and fundamentally expands the role of government in our lives.

"We have a choice. I support a budget proposed by House Republicans that curbs spending, creates jobs, and controls the debt. This solution-oriented budget would provide tax relief for small businesses, simplify the tax code, and keep energy costs low. I am fighting to preserve free markets because they are the greatest engine for prosperity the world has ever known." – Congressman Doug Lamborn (CO-05)
