LAMBORN TAKES LEAD ON COURTING NEW AIR FORCE COMMANDS FOR COLORADO

June 29, 2009

FORMS TWO TASK FORCES

Washington, Oct 28, 2008 -

Washington, DC –

Congressman Doug Lamborn (CO-05) announced today the formation of two Fifth District Task Forces to help attract new Air Force commands to Colorado. The two task forces will include key leaders from industry, government, academia and the military community.

The task forces will seek to educate the Air Force on the benefits of locating the new Air Force Global Strike Command (AFGSC) and the new cyber Numbered Air Force (NAF) in Colorado Springs. AFGSC is dedicated to protecting our nation’s nuclear mission, while the new NAF is aimed at protecting our military’s cyber assets.

"The Air Force’s historic restructuring decisions will transform our nation’s defense focus for years to come. The Air Force recognizes it must have a more robust nuclear force, as well as the need to protect our sensitive cyber capabilities. Colorado Springs is already home to many of the key military and civilian personnel in these fields. It is also home to a sophisticated defense contracting community ready to assist the Air Force in these important new commands. I look forward to working with the various stake holders as we educate the Air Force to the advantages of locating these commands in Colorado." - Congressman Doug Lamborn (C0-05)

Because the cyber mission will be organized under Air Force Space Command (AFSPC), located at Peterson AFB, Colorado Springs is a natural fit for the new subordinate cyber NAF.

Additionally, many of the key personnel for the proposed Global Strike Command are already stationed at Peterson AFB as part of AFSPC.
