He also released the following statement:

"Tonight America heard from President Trump about his vision for a better union. I stand with my colleagues in the House to join him in achieving our common goals. Already we've eliminated the previous administration's overly burdensome regulations, passed the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, created jobs, and empowered all Americans.

Last week in the district I heard from many who share the president's enthusiasm in all we've accomplished and share a common excitement for what's ahead. Our community is benefiting from an economy boosted by tax reform. We've seen bonuses, increased savings, and more.

President Trump accomplished many things in his first year in office. He's always supported fair trade initiatives and held to an 'America first' standard. As he said, "the era of economic surrender is over." We will continue to put the American worker first and do what's best for our economy, first and foremost.

Our military has Congress and the President's pledge to provide them with what they need to protect our country. We will rebuild our military and make it capable to take on any threat. Our men and women in uniform deserve this.

As Chairman of the Subcommittee on Water, Power, and Oceans I understand a solid infrastructure plan is extremely important – not only for the western United States that I represent, but for our entire nation. Highways and bridges throughout the nation urgently need updating and essential transportation functions are crumbling. I fully support the president's plan to restore and improve the nation's infrastructure.

I also appreciate President Trump's outline for immigration reform as part of the conversation about strengthening our borders - something I've always supported. Our current immigration system jeopardizes America's national security and public safety. I look forward to working with Congress to work on the safest, most efficient system.

Congress will heed the president's call to continue accomplishing great things for America. We must work together – across party lines -- to accomplish even more in 2018. I'm honored to represent and serve the Fifth Congressional District at home and in Washington, D.C."
