Colorado Springs, Colorado - Today in Colorado Springs, a ceremony was held to recognize the establishment of U.S. Space Command at Peterson Air Force Base. General Raymond, the newly-confirmed commander of U.S. Space Command, and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Dunford were in attendance along with many other dignitaries and elected officials.

After the ceremony, Congressman Lamborn issued the following statement:

"It is great to see Space Command established at Peterson Air Force Base in Colorado Springs. With the vast preponderance of our military's space warfighting infrastructure and uniformed and civilian space warfighters already located here, this important step ensures that there is zero loss of capability during this important restructuring of our defense space enterprise. It is an exciting time for the national security space community, and I am supremely confident that our fine space professionals, under General Raymond's outstanding leadership, will take advantage of the new resources and authorities at their disposal. As China and Russia continue to aggressively militarize the space domain and seek to erode our positions of advantage, SPACECOM will play a central role in maintaining America's primacy in this domain for decades to come. Folks across the district are excited to welcome Space Command to Colorado Springs-this is a great day for our community, for our state, and for our nation."
