Rep. Banks, Lamborn Applaud Sec. DeVos's Restriction of COVID-19 Aid to Legal U.S. Residents

May 4, 2020
Washington, D.C. – Today, Congressman Jim Banks (IN-03), Doug Lamborn (CO-05) and eight of their colleagues sent a letter to Secretary DeVos applauding her common-sense guidance directing universities to restrict limited coronavirus aid to American students and students legally residing in the United States.
"In three decades, American workers, many of whom are currently in college, will be sending their hard-earned tax dollars to pay off the Trillion dollars the CARES Act added to the national debt," said Rep. Banks. "We owe them each dollar of relief that they've bought. Because Secretary DeVos brushed off misguided critics in Congress, they will receive the entirety of that aid. I applaud her for following the letter of the law and putting American students first."

"Since his first day in office, President Trump has continually put Americans first. During this crisis, we must ensure that educational assistance from the CARES Act goes to our citizens, not illegal immigrants," said Rep. Lamborn. "I am thankful for Secretary DeVos and the Trump Administration's prioritization of American students. This continued investment will benefit our communities for generations to come."

Representatives Debbie Lesko, Ted Budd, Greg Murphy, Tim Burchett, Jim Hagedorn, Greg Steube, Steve King and Louie Gohmert co-signed the letter.
