July 26, 2021

Colorado Springs, Colorado – Today, the Department of the Air Force officially renamed Peterson Air Force Base and Schriever Air Force Base into Space Force Bases, and renamed Cheyenne Mountain Air Force Station "Cheyenne Mountain Space Force Station." The joint ceremony took place at Peterson Air Force Base and was presided over by General Raymond. Congressman Lamborn has strongly advocated for this designation and has been a champion for the newly created United States Space Force and American space power.

Congressman Lamborn issued the following statement after attending the base renaming ceremony:

"I was pleased to attend the renaming ceremony for Peterson Space Force Base, Schriever Space Force Base, and Cheyenne Mountain Space Force Station. Colorado Springs is the center of space activity in the country and plays a unique role in our national security space enterprise. This move is a key milestone in establishing a distinct identity for the United States Space Force. We must continue to focus on national security space and prioritize the significance of space as a war-fighting domain. As a leader in advocating for the creation of the United States Space Force, this is a crucial step in protecting our critical space assets and maintaining American space dominance."
