Press Release

WASHINGTON, DCCongressman Doug Lamborn (R-CO), a member of the fiscally responsible Republican Study Committee (RSC), joined his colleagues this week to launch the American Taxpayer Bill of Rights at a press conference at the Capitol. The event marked the beginning of a grassroots effort to ensure that leaders in Washington never forget that tax money belongs to the taxpayers, not the government.

"One of our most important duties in Congress is to be responsible stewards of American tax dollars," said Congressman Lamborn. "It is critical that we maintain fiscal discipline by controlling government spending and making the responsible decisions that reduce the tax burden on the American people. The State of Colorado has demonstrated leadership in implementing an important Taxpayer Bill of Rights and I fully support every effort to provide the same kind of safeguards to taxpayers at the federal level."

The RSC’s American Taxpayer Bill of Rights establishes four basic rights to ensure that the taxpayers across America receive a more efficient and accountable government.

  1. Taxpayers have a right to have a federal government that does not grow beyond their ability to pay for it.
  2. Taxpayers have a right to receive back each dollar that they entrust to the government for their retirement.
  3. Taxpayers have a right to expect the government to balance the budget without having their taxes raised.
  4. Taxpayers have a right to a simple, fair tax code that they can understand.

"I agree with those who believe Washington spends too much, and I agree with those who believe Washington still taxes too much," said Congressman Lamborn. "I, along with fellow RSC members pledge to work to balance the budget, cut wasteful Washington spending, and provide permanent tax relief."
