Secretary DeVos Visits Parents Challenge in Colorado Springs
Colorado Springs, CO - Earlier today, Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos joined education leaders in Colorado Springs to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Parents Challenge, the only privately-funded Education Savings Account (ESA) program in the country. Secretary DeVos has been an unwavering champion for school choice programs, especially legislation that empowers parents with more education options. She highlighted HR 1434, the Education Freedom Scholarships and Opportunity Act, which would create a national ESA program modeled after Parents Challenge. Congressman Lamborn is a co-sponsor of this legislation.
Congressman Lamborn made the following statement regarding Secretary DeVos’ visit to Parents Challenge:
"Secretary DeVos understands the importance of creating higher quality education by school choice. As a father, I know that no two children are alike, and students will have more success in an educational environment that suits their individual needs. School choice opens the doors for parents to focus on their child's skills or passions, rather than forcing children into a 'one-size-fits-all' approach to education. I strongly support H.R. 1434 and believe it will ultimately lead to higher quality education for all Americans.
I want to congratulate Steve Schuck, the founder of Parent's Challenge, on their 20th Anniversary, for empowering low-income families in Colorado's 5th Congressional District. Their work helps parents find quality education that fits their child's needs. I am glad Secretary DeVos has acknowledged the great work this organization has achieved."
