Statement on Obama's Final Budget Proposal

February 10, 2016

Today, Congressman Lamborn released a statement on President Obama's final budget proposal for fiscal year 2017:

"Each year since becoming president, Barack Obama has released unrealistic and irresponsible budget proposals—and it looks like he saved his worst for last. His $4 trillion proposal requests a $3.4 trillion tax increase that would hurt low-income and middle-class families while never balancing the budget. With the national deficit already topping $19 trillion, you can be sure that this liberal wish list is dead on arrival.

The President's budget proposal underfunds our military at a time when the world is becoming more dangerous. And it fails to address serious problems in the VA. For instance, $969 million would be redirected away from the Choice Act, a program our veterans like and need. This is a slap in the face to our nation's veterans considering the recent revelations about the serious problems taking place at our Colorado Springs CBOC.

This is once again a missed opportunity for stewardship of taxpayer dollars. Instead of more overspending, we need a detailed plan to rein in the federal bureaucracy, reduce regulatory burdens, fully fund our military, and provide for our veterans. That is what our country needs, and that is what I intend to continue to fight for."
