“As representatives of the state of Colorado, we urge that you provide us with certainty that the findings and recommendations of the GAO and DoD OIG reports are incorporated into the final decision regarding the location of USSPACECOM headquarters,” the lawmakers concluded.

“While I wholeheartedly support the effort to improve access to mental health care and securing our schools, I will never support legislation that discards law-abiding Americans’ right to self-defense and due process guaranteed under the Constitution. Rather, we should incentivize states to harden schools to protect our children and improve mental health programs. I believe that the right to bear arms is one of our nation’s most fundamental and vital protections. I will always stand against any legislation that restricts an individual’s God-given right to own and carry a firearm.”

I applaud the Supreme Court for making the right decision! The 1973 Roe v. Wade decision, made half a century ago, was tragically wrong and caused insurmountable damage to our nation. Human life is precious from conception to natural death and this ruling will save countless innocent lives.  “In the days and weeks following this decision, I will work with my pro-life colleagues in Congress to continue to reject extreme policies that seek to allow late-term abortions and taxpayer dollars to fund these elective procedures. While today we are rejoicing, the fight now turns to the states where the American people must go on the offense for life.  “We must defend the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness for every American - born and unborn. I will never waiver in the fight to protect the most vulnerable among us."

The lawmakers continued, "Let there be no misunderstanding: this unprecedented arrangement—to turn the Palestinian Affairs Unit into a 'U.S. Office of Palestinian Affairs' that will no longer report to the U.S. Ambassador to Israel but instead report directly to the State Department in Washington, D.C., and to appoint a Special Envoy to the Palestinians—is an effort to open an unofficial and de facto U.S. consulate to the Palestinians in Jerusalem. In fact, the Biden Administration admits this decision is one step closer to opening an official U.S. consulate, a plan it refuses to stop pushing despite the Government of Israel's adamant opposition and Deputy Secretary of State for Management and Resources Brian McKeon's admission to Congress in October 2021 that the United States, under international law, would 'need to get the consent of the host government to open any diplomatic facility.'"  "The Biden Administration's decision is wrong and not how America should treat Israel, one of our closest allies in the world. As sponsors of the Upholding the 1995 Jerusalem Embassy Law Act of 2021 to withhold funding for a U.S. consulate to the Palestinians in Israel's capital, we unequivocally oppose the Biden Administration's decision and will use every tool at our disposal to stop it in the 117th Congress and afterwards," they concluded.

“The Constitution protects the right of law-abiding Americans to own a firearm for self-defense through the Second Amendment. While Democrats continue to allow for unsecure borders and push unconstitutional gun control measures, rising crime has made communities increasingly unsafe. This decision comes at a crucial time for the safety and well-being of Americans. Today’s ruling strengthens the protections afforded by the 2nd Amendment, and rightfully ensures that all law-abiding citizens can defend themselves without unnecessary government interference.”

“I was pleased to vote for the FY23 National Defense Authorization Act and see this markup continue the tradition of passing through the House Armed Services Committee in a bipartisan manner. This legislation will strengthen our national security, increase pay and housing allowances for our service members, address rising inflation costs and concerns, and bring hundreds of millions of dollars’ worth of economic growth and investment to Colorado’s Fifth Congressional District.   “This bill will increase the Defense topline by $37 billion, providing our troops with the resources they need to execute the missions they’ve been assigned, and correcting President Biden’s inadequate defense budget.   “Additionally, this bill solidifies our community’s place as the epicenter of America’s national security space enterprise and puts our country on the right foot to compete with and deter China.”  “Although this markup is not perfect, it is a significant step towards meeting the needs of our military and ensuring that our men and women in uniform have what they need to serve and defense our nation. I look forward to improving this bill on the House Floor in July.”

“I was glad to lead this effort and continue working to protect the 1st Amendment rights of our men and women in uniform. Over the past several months, I have heard concerns from cadets attending our service academies and members of our armed forces living in my district who have been denied religious exemption requests despite holding sincerely held religious beliefs. “The small number of religious exemptions that have been granted proves that there is something wrong in this process. Not only are individuals being denied these exemptions, but cadets and service members who request accommodations are being unjustly punished."

“Threats, destruction of property, and acts of violence are against the law and should never be tolerated or ignored,” said Congressman Lamborn. “Politically motivated violence against pro-life organizations falls clearly within the jurisdiction of federal law enforcement. The Department of Justice has a duty to prosecute these crimes. I hope that the Biden Administration takes these dangerous situations seriously and stops these violent extremists in their tracks. I thank Congresswoman Tenney and Congressman Babin for leading these important efforts, and hope to see action, not silence, from the White House.”

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Doug Lamborn, Ranking Member of the Strategic Forces Subcommittee, delivered the following opening statement at the full committee markup for the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2023.

“The First Amendment not only protects American’s right to speak and express their views, but it also protects their freedom not to speak. If Lorie Smith’s deeply-held religious beliefs compel her from speaking in favor of same-sex marriage, then Colorado cannot force Smith or any other American with similar views to support that message.” said Congressman Doug Lamborn. “Americans should be free to express and uphold their beliefs, even if the government doesn’t agree!”
