Congressman Doug Lamborn (CO-05) issued the following statement regarding President Trump's announcement of a new VA Secretary nominee:
“Since 2015, Secretary Shulkin has served the veterans of this country and helped make important strides toward ensuring our veterans have the healthcare and other benefits they deserve. While I appreciate his passion for trying to provide veterans with the healthcare they deserve, I fully support President Trump’s decision to go in a different direction. In light of recent events at the VA, it is important we don’t allow distractions to undermine the care we provide to those that have given so much. Like the president, I believe we need someone in charge of the VA who’s solution to a broken system is not to throw more and more money at it. Giving veterans more choices is not “privatizing the VA” – it’s the best way to ensure this vital population of patriots receives the care they deserve on a timeline which makes sense. My priority is and always will be ensuring that we put veterans first at the VA. I look forward to working with Acting Secretary Wilkie and his successor to continue the reforms necessary to achieve this goal.”
