Today the Air Force responded to Congressman Doug Lamborn's (CO-05) letter with 25 House cosigners regarding Colonel Leland Bohannon religious accomodation case. The Director of the Air Force Review Boards Agency granted Col. Bohannon's appeal. This means when he declined to sign the certificate of appreciation for a same-sex spouse of an Airman in his command, he had a right to exercise his sincerely held religious beliefs and did not unlawfully discriminate.
Congressman Doug Lamborn (CO-05) released the following statement:
“The Air Force has sided with religious liberty in Colonel Bohannon’s case in a huge victory for our military and a reaffirmation of the First Amendment," Congressman Lamborn said. "I wrote a letter to the Air Force months ago cautioning them against discriminating against a service member's religious belief, and requesting corrective action on Colonel Bohannon's behalf. The decision to restore Col. Bohannon and protect his fundamental right to religious freedom is extremely important in ensuring situations like this don’t happen again in the future.”
