Congressman Doug Lamborn (CO-05) released the following statement regarding Holocaust Remembrance Day:
"Today marks Yom HaShoah in Israel, Holocaust Remembrance Day. This day honors the 75th anniversary of the Warsaw Ghetto uprising, when Jews in the Warsaw Ghetto fought against their Nazi captors. The uprising was ultimately put down, but years later the same strength that led the Jews to fight in Warsaw led the Jewish people to reestablish themselves in their homeland, the State of Israel.
Today, anti-Semitism is once again spreading throughout the civilized world. Just weeks ago, an 85-year-old Holocaust survivor, Mireille Knoll, was brutally murdered in her apartment in Paris. The French police said the motive was anti-Jewish sentiment.
While we remember the 6 million Jewish men, women, and children who were murdered in the Holocaust, we also must remember Mireille, who was murdered for being Jewish in Paris in 2018. We mourn the 6 million and we mourn Mireille, and commit ourselves to ensuring that the world does not stay silent today."
